GARDEN PROJECTS

Holloway Park

PROJECT:  The Entrance Garden at Holloway Park.  This is one of three garden areas, which were initiated in the Spring of 1982 by the Mount Airy Clay Breakers working in cooperation with the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

The garden went from clay and rocks and weeds to varying degrees of beauty.  Perennial and annual flowers, plus bulbs, shrubs and a tree have given pleasure and have sometimes needed to be replaced due to vandalism or weather damage.  At present, there are a variety of seasonal bulbs, a knockout rose, a dogwood, mums, etc.

Since it’s creation, a bicycle path has been installed, and deceased members have been honored by a bench, azalea, dogwood and plaque.  This garden has been tended to for 34 years by loyal members of our club.   As an Entrance garden, it is enjoyed by all who drive in or pass by, and is, indeed, a labor of love.
